The district professional development survey has been sent out via awrsd district email. Everyone’s response is necessary so that the professional development committee will have complete data to report and to work with. The link is listed below and is also on your awrsd email. Please take the 5 minutes it takes to complete this.
The PD committee is asking that you complete this by April 13th.
Professional development activities are offered at the various district schools.
These activities are designed to match the goals that were developed in the district's school improvement plan.

RE: Professional Development
DATE: June 5, 2006
This year’s professional development was designed to provide a broad understanding of the components of a standards-based curriculum that included curriculum mapping and assessments. In order to continue our district standards-based focus, differentiated instruction, another component of a standards-based curriculum, will be introduced at a district workshop on November 7, 2006. There will be three full days and three half days for professional development in the 06-07 school year.
Time will be provided to:
COMPLETE CURRICULUM MAPS
Identify content knowledge, and skills
Align state standards to the maps
COMPARE INDIVIDUAL MAPS
Meet as buildings, departments, curriculum areas, and grade level
Match grade level maps and state standards
If time permits, inter-school common groups will align standards and create performance assessments that match their state standards.
In a continuing effort to maintain quality professional development courses in our district, a 3 credit course titled, “Understanding by Design” will be offered to staff beginning in January. This course will be taught by Karen Martin, Curriculum Instructor of Lunenburg Public schools. The course will allow participants to put into practice standards-based design components. Participants will develop standards-based units using the backward design model. More information on this course will follow as time gets closer.
